When can you be detained when entering or staying in Ukraine without legal grounds and how?
State authorities are allowed to detain you when you enter or stay in Ukraine without legal grounds. However, as such detention is a very severe restriction of your liberty, it must be lawful. The grounds for this detention are explained in the Law of Ukraine “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons”, and in the Instruction on the Procedure for Holding Foreigners and Stateless Persons in Temporary Holding Facilities.
Moreover, you must be treated humanely while in detention. Namely, you must be held in appropriate conditions and protected from all forms of abuse. If the detention has not been lawful and you have not been treated humanely, such human rights as the right to liberty and security, the right to life, the prohibition of torture and the right to private life may be affected.
