In several cases, you may be prohibited from standing for election by a judicial decision. However, such a restriction should not be automatic, and the offence must be sufficiently serious or associated with the electoral process.
In Ukraine, a citizen who has a criminal record for committing an intentional crime cannot be elected to the parliament, if this criminal record has not been extinguished and not removed in accordance with the procedure established by law.
At local elections in Ukraine, a citizen of Ukraine who has a criminal record for committing a serious or particularly serious crime, a criminal offense against the electoral rights of citizens or a corruption criminal offense, or a criminal offense against the national security of Ukraine cannot be elected as a deputy of the local council or the Mayor of a city or village, if this criminal record has not been extinguished or not removed in accordance with the procedure established by law.
